Corrosion and abrasion protection: UV-resistant coating for Germany`s longest whitewater course at the “Tropical Islands”

About the beneficiary of the corrosion and anti-abrasion protection system

"Tropical Islands" is the largest whitewater park in Europe and ensures guests plenty of attractions and facilities. Germany’s longest whitewater course, the „Wild-Water-River“ was opened in their outdoor area- AMAZONIA. Thus, for protection against UV radiation, weathering and abrasion, a corrosion protection system based on polymer ceramic was applied all over 250 m of concrete channel.

"Tropical Islands Dome" is a segment with a length of 360 m, 210 m wide and 107 m high. This structure was previously used as hangar for airships and now integrates seamlessly into the water park. But the spotlight remains "Wild-Water-River", mentioned above, the surface of which covers 35,000 m². Here we mention that the water temperature is maintained at 31 ° C.

From a hard surface to a smooth surface

At first, the surface was grinded and the concrete was prepared with primer CP-SYNTHOFLOOR 8010. The product can be mixed with quartz sand and used for concrete repair.

In the next phase, the product Proguard CN 200 was applied. As an addition made surface material, this layer provides protection against abrasion, caused by high velocity.

As a topcoat, the product Proguard 169 was used, with resistance to chlorine, UV radiation, weathering and abrasion. Moreover, satin layer, non-porous, ensures the long-term color stability.
