Periodic inspection: important step in preventing corrosion

corrosion prevention

                                                                     (device for measuring the hardness)

In a previous article, we`ve see the effects and economic impact of corrosion. Personnel safety and equipment efficiency are among the basic elements of a successful business. To achieve these points, we must be able to identify early factors that may adversely affect our mission. In other words, we need periodic inspection. It provides you all the necessary information. We know at what point we are and what measures we must take to avoid unpleasant events.

When you need to perform inspections?

The answer differs from conditions and situations that carry out inspections. We will clarify on following points:

  • When there are multiple risks (working with substance with corrosive potential, humidity, components are exposed to weather conditions etc), inspections are done at short intervals. This depends on the aggressiveness of the environment. The main objective of regular inspections is to determine whether the equipment is maintained in safety parameters
  • If the average level of risk, scheduling inspections depends on company policy. This happens when the risks are estimated and controlled to ensure employee safety and to evoid economic implications
  • In other cases, where the risk of corrosion is considered to be insignificant. When corrosion occurs and is detected immediately or after routine inspections. But this is possible  when corrosion occurs in places visible or easily accessible. In opposite situations, corrosion is not detected and affects the quality of the equipment. Situation posible for all three situations

Organizing inspections

For a better understanding of the situation, it is recommended to make a  study on the materials fom wich the equipment is made, drawings, standard welding procedures and, why not, producers and suppliers skills and experience.

We focus on the skills needed by the person responsible with the inspections. Courses and trainings in the areas of techniques for checking, as readiography, Ultrasonics, Magnetic Particles and dye penetrants are necessary. Regular inspection and quality control are the key in a program of preventive behavior.

We are available for any questions regarding the control surfaces and implementation of corrosion protection systems and anti-abrasion, also for corrosion and anti-abrasion product application. You have our contact information here. Choose safety of personnel and equipment efficiency long!
